Blues coach Pat Lam has backed Joe Rokocoko's bid for an All Blacks touring position despite the try-scoring wing having spent most of the year on the sidelines injured.
You wouldn't need more than one hand to count the meaningful games that Rokocoko has played this year as he has battled back from wrist surgery and hamstring problems that seriously truncated both his Super 14 and Air New Zealand Cup campaigns and took him out of all nine of the All Blacks tests.
But he's fit again and his reputation has earned him a place in the All Blacks wider training squad that is in camp in Auckland this week.
And Rokocoko's reputation is significant given the lack of experience in the wing department at the moment.
The 25-year-old has scored 43 tries in 48 tests for the All Blacks since making his debut in 2003.
"They know a lot about Joe," Lam said of the All Blacks selectors retaining their faith in him.
"That's the thing - once you are in there they know what you can do.
"It's not like potential ... someone who might have potential. Joe has been there, done that.
"The only reason he hasn't been there this year is because of injury.
"So he has been working hard getting himself back to full fitness with his body. It's just game time now."
Rokocoko's game time was cut short by Auckland's early exit from the Air New Zealand Cup with the defending champions failing to make the quarter-finals.
Rokocoko took the opportunity to play for the Auckland B side two weeks ago to get some more game time under his belt.
"He had a good hit-out then and I'd imagine he will have a good hit out on Wednesday," Lam said in reference to the All Blacks training squad having a practice match against the New Zealand Barbarians side in Henderson.
Lam will coach the Baabaas who are essentially a Blues trial squad.
Rokocoko faces a fair bit of competition to get his place back and will need to back his experience.
Rudi Wulf, Anthony Tuitavake, Isaia Toieava and Richard Kahui have all been used as test wings at various stages this year and are in the All Blacks wider training squad.
Wellington's wonder wing Hosea Gear and utilities Cory Jane (Wellington) and Paul Williams (Canterbury) are also in strong contention for the tour squad when they contest the Air New Zealand Cup final in Wellington on Saturday night.
